Flag Football Sunday!

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Come out and watch mere mortal, scarwny cyclists in the realm of the big boys. This is where we unclip, shed the lycra, and don multicolored flags...and we show what we are truly made of. On the gridiron, champions are made (or at least that's what is said...we didn't see any of that). And, when the time came to choose the team's champions...I was the fat kid on the playground, picked last.

CLM 100k 2010!

The 2010 CLM 100k is in the books. Many showed up, all gave some, and some gave all. The morning started cool as we kitted up at Erich's place. Buskirk was along for the ride from E's place, and we showed up (un)fashionable late to South Fork. The first lap was the parade around Winston lap, and was chill enough.

Everyone chatting it up, having fun. At the beginning of the second lap, we wound around on Peace Haven, and once on Milhaven Erich attacked. I took off with him, and we gained some ground on the field only to be drawn back after about a mile or so. Onto Petree, and the pace quickened. After pulling off the front, a small gap formed between Mark and Erich and the four others still surviving. I pulled to the front trying to bridge the gap and pulled Cisco and Chancey back into the fray. I was witness to the whole ensuing charade, but could not take part... I was cooked. We regrouped on Polo, had some fun out to Akron Drive and saw the carnie train:

After Coliseum, we headed to Pilot View where there were some spectators to cheer us on. They snagged some cool photos of the climb:

After regrouping again, we headed back to Country Club and onto our third lap. When on CC, Mark was in the front, and I kept expecting him to lay the smackdown on everyone, but he was gracious enough to keep the pace tame. Thanks man!

Onto the third lap, and a relatively chill pace again, things got slightly fractured since there was confusion on the route. Cameron, Erich, Cisco and I found ourselves in the West End with no one else around.

We did our work of philanthropy and talked this guy back from the edge:

A couple quick calls let us know that the rest of the group headed back to the cars, so we made quick work of Forsyth Street:

and headed back to E's place to get set up for the chilifest!

A post ride interview with Amy:

A ride, and event like this makes me incredibly grateful for such a closeknit group of likeminded people. I know that it isn't too common that one could join a group such as ours and have everyone get along so well.

Another round of SECCA cross racing last night

And another implement of masochism for myself.

Bandit's Roost Camping Trip

Last night amidst a pretty heavy downpour and lightning storm, Lisa and I packed up camp and came home to a comfortable bed. Our original plans were to stay Friday and Saturday night, but having looked at the forecast for rain the entire night, and itno the morning, we decided otherwise. Saturday was an eventful day, mountain biking in the morning on the OVT, a side trip to Moravian Falls, and hiking at Dark Mountain in the afternoon netted us hungry bellies and an exhausted dog.

Love the smell of OVT in the morning

Moravian Falls, just before the haggard old lady stared us down for taking photos of "her" pristine wilderness...complete with 18million no tresspassing signs.

SECCA CX#2

SECCA Cross race last night put on by Mock Orange. This was my first time at the venue, and I chose to spectate (for this week). Chancey, Sirena, Brad, Cameron, and Rip were all racing in the B race when I got there. Everyone was riding strong, looking like they were in pain, but still rocking it. Hecklejack and Alex Ry Ry were both racing in the A race. Mark was on his singlespeed making all sorts of ruckus by the third lap. He hopped off course, retensioned the chain and adjusted the wheel then was back on course. Cool venue, hopefully next week I'll be racin instead of spectatin.

This was terrifying. I kept thinking it was going to come to life, shove the flowers down my throat and kill me.

HodgePodge Loop

After my failed attempts to get anyone to go do a mountain bike ride with me over on the CLM blog, I caved and opted for a skinny-tired ride. I talked with Mitch, and decided to meet him at Pacilini and ride with the Cycletherapy crew. After just a few miles with the crew, we decided to strike out on our own and hit some of the Pfafftown Pyrennes.

Mitch had made mention at one point of an apple festival going on in Bethabara, and we were now close...so obviously we had no choice but to ride over there...

We each got a piece of apple pie from a vendor there that is based in Hendersonville, NC. The farm was a family owned deal called Creasman's. The pie was spectacular!

After we consumed the manna from heaven, we continued on the ride feeling slightly slower...I wonder why? We ended up riding through Wake Forest, then onto the city loop and into downtown. Rock the Block is going on today, so we checked it out, then hit up Old Salem and back the remainder of the city loop. Mitch declared today, "one of the funnest days on the bike in a while." Love that I can be a part of that every once in a while, good days.
