Yadkin Metric

Chancey, Sirena and I met up at Paceline today to head out for a lengthy ride. The heat made this ride much tougher than it normally would have been. We hemmed and hawed around the truck until we decided on a vague route, "let's head that way" and rolled out. By the time we rolled into East Bend, I was already pouring sweat, and quickly realizing that if I didn't stay ahead of myself, I would cramp up. We refilled bottles and decided to head out towards Surry county and link up at the terminus of Rockford. One the way, we saw these guys going in towards East Bend, cool!

The climb up from the river on Rockford is a ton of fun, I'll definitely have to make a repeat visit to that area. We stopped a second time at the golf course to refill bottles yet again, it was getting seriously warm by this point.
We crossed back over 67 and were on some more roads that I hadn't been on, one of which was my favorite of the day, Sugartown! On one of the many times we crossed over 67, we passed Rag Apple Lassie, and it felt like we were in France

On down Speer Bridge, out towards Coutrney-Huntsville. We regrouped here and decided to head out and do the Wyo loop to get more mileage in. At nearly 50 miles, it felt odd to be heading away from our cars knowing that we still had a decent haul to get back to them either way. All three of us were feeling pretty low by the end of Wyo and we knew that we had still another ten or so miles to get back...engage survival mode. We limped it on back up to Lewisville, then to Country Club and back to Paceline. On the way in Shallowford, it was slightly disheartening knowing that we'd normally be rockin at 24-26mph and we were doing 17 or 18.

Ride Stats: just under 64 miles, 19 mph average, 3500 calories burnt...Bratwurst will replenish those!
